Description

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:
• Temporary part time –20 hours per week (with the possibility of an extended term).
• Contract duration – Commencement of hire to June 28, 2019.

Responsibilities

• Must respect and appreciate the values and beliefs of The Salvation Army along with its leaders who adhere to these principles.
• Be directly responsible to the Community & Family Services Worker and Corps Officers.
• Be able to perform the duties of the Community & Family Services Worker during their absence.
• Conducts initial intake assessments (including evaluation of client/family protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client.
• Provides spiritual guidance and uses every opportunity to share the Christian faith.
• Through exercising empathetic care, assists individuals to determine an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process; facilitates effective problem-solving behaviours of the client/family.
• Provides emergency assistance services (i.e. housing, shelter, food, clothing, etc.) in accordance with policy.
• Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files and statistical records.
• Assists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Food Bank, Meal Centre, etc.
• Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations.
• May direct and supervise volunteers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Completion of High School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months. (NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be considered.)
• One year but less than three years of prior related experience, including, experience working with multi-barriered persons.
• Ability to listen attentively.
• Occasional computer work.
• Must possess a current Police and Vulnerability Check prior to being hired.
