- Full time – Maternity Leave Term
- 35 hours per week
- Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement literacy curriculum which reflects both the Provincial Stages curriculum and the individual learner’s interests and literacy needs.
- Create and monitor an Educational Action Plan with each student, to ensure that they have clear academic and personal goals during their participation in program.
- Plan and supervise educational field trips to broaden the student’s learning environment as appropriate.
- Perform on-going evaluation of each student’s academic participation in the program. Complete monthly written evaluations on each student to ensure that their educational action plan continues to be relevant, realistic and achievable.
- Perform daily record keeping of attendance, updating written case notes as required. Work closely with students and EIA workers to manage attendance as necessary.
- Assist in assessing, scheduling and supervising volunteer tutors as available.
- Foster co-operative social interaction with students through group dynamics.
- Develop computer curriculum and prepare computer teaching materials appropriate to current STEP clients.
- Teach students in both group and individual settings using prepared lessons and assignments.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- MB Teaching Certification preferred.
- University/College diploma in education and/or social services.
Experience:
- Experience teaching low level literacy adults.
- Experience respectfully working with adults from a variety of cultural backgrounds.
- Experience working with adults in receipt of Employment and Income Assistance.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Ability to instruct adult students whose reading/writing level is between grades 3-6.
- Ability to instruct adults where English is an additional language.
- Ability to instruct adults in basic computer skills.
Preferred Skills/Capabilities:
- Experience working in a Manitoba Adult Literacy Program.
- Experience working in an inner city location.
- Ability to manage attendance and behavioural issues independently.
