This is a temporary, part time position with 15 hours a week.  Flexibility in scheduling is required.  The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.  Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.

Start Date: August 4, 2020

End Date: August 4, 2021

Shifts: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 9:00 am – 2:30 pm

Normal location of work is at New Hope Community Church 690 Riddell Rd. Orangeville, ON

  • Ensure that all aspects of work are completed in accordance with The Salvation Army standards
  • Provide accurate, timely and highly organized administrative support including: all types of correspondence, maintaining files, preparing presentations, reports, and other documentation. Record and type meeting minutes
  • Organization and maintenance of filing systems (electronic and manual)
  • Photocopy, distribute materials, send and receive fax/emails as requested
  • Handle and ensure the protection of extremely confidential and sensitive files
  • Maintain electronic and hard-copy databases; enter into Salvation Army Management Information System (S.A.M.I.S)



  • Conduct weekly processing of Sunday Morning Contributions
  • Receive donations, process tax receipts as applicable and send acknowledgment letters
  • Code and submit accounts payable invoices/bills for payment
  • Process expenses through Business World/TEM and receipting through Shelby
  • Handle and reconcile petty cash and other related accounting duties (e.g. bank deposits)



  • Liaise with community, department heads, Corps Officers, Divisional Headquarters and Territorial Headquarters
  • Ensure cards, flowers or other acknowledgements are sent to employees for events: birthdays, illness, death in family, birth, graduation, etc.
  • Order stationery supplies and other office supplies as directed
  • Open/distribute in-coming mail and process out-going mail including materials of a confidential nature; receives parcel(s) and distributes
  • Coordinate building rentals and associated paperwork
  • Perform other position related duties as required

  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority
  • OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with the public, both in person and on the telephone
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement
  • Must be an adaptable pro-active thinker, self-directed and independent worker with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills to prioritizing skills, managing multiple tasks to handle a demanding workload
  • Accurately and efficiently scribe detailed minutes
  • Self-motivated, disciplined and demonstrates a high level of integrity
  • Ability to lift/move up to 10 lbs. (4.5kg)
  • Develop an understanding of the Mission of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products is required - i.e. Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, etc.
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada


education and experience Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Community College program, a Business Administration Diploma or Certificate preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience, including, administrative
  • Some prior related experience using cloud based human resources software
  • Payroll experience with UltiPro is an asset
  • A valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License is required, a current Driver’s Abstract
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
