Description

We are hiring two part-time Christmas Kettle Support Workers (up to 27.5 hours/week/role) to assist with The Salvation Army's annual Christmas Kettle Campaign. These roles focus on recruiting and supporting volunteers and ensuring smooth operations at kettle locations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Training & Orientation
  • Attend a one-day training and orientation on The Salvation Army and the Christmas Kettle Campaign.
  • Support volunteer orientation events.
  1. Kettle Logistics & Operations
  • Assist in getting kettles to and from designated locations using a company vehicle.
  • Ensure all kettle donations are delivered securely to the collection point at the end of each shift.
  • Deliver and pick up kettles from sites daily, ensuring the security of donations.
  • Provide on-site support at kettles when necessary, including during volunteer breaks.
  • Ensure safe pick up and lock up of kettles each night.
  1. Volunteer Coordination & Support
  • Work with a team to coordinate volunteer scheduling for kettle shifts.
  • Respond to emergency absences and coordinate shift coverage.
  • Check in with volunteers throughout their shifts to ensure smooth operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise at kettle locations including; kettle stands and tap devices, e.g. kettle hardware, battery issues, etc.
  • Take photographs of volunteers and kettles for use on social media and other platforms.
  1. Communication & Reporting
  • Communicate daily operational issues or supply shortages to the supervisor.
  • Ensure all equipment and supplies are maintained and readily available for volunteers.
  1. Post-Campaign Responsibilities
  • Retrieve equipment and supplies from kettle locations at the end of the campaign.
  • Participate in the campaign debrief and assist in evaluating campaign effectiveness.

Other Duties:

Perform additional work related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma
  • Post-secondary experience may be an asset

Experience:

  • Previous fundraising and supervisory experience,
  • Experience working and leading volunteers will be an asset

HOURS:

  • 2 - temporary Part Time Positions Available:
  • Up to 27.5 paid hours/ week/role (Tues thru Sat. 5.5 hrs. day/role)
  • One Day Time Position (9am-3pm) and One Evening Position (2:30pm-8:30pm) in Salmon Arm
  • 8- week contract duration: November 5, 2024, to December 24, 2024.

Working Environment:

  • Driving in winter – use of work program vehicle during working hours
  • Carries a cell phone – work cell phone will be provided during working hours

Required Skills/Knowledge:

    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • High standards of integrity, judgment and confidentiality
    • Strong decision-making, organizational skills and a strong team player
    • General office skills and experience, familiar in using various office equipment
    • Proficiency on various computer programs; Microsoft Word, Excel, Database
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines and targets

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Praesidium Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
