IKEA Winnipeg donates over $10,000 worth of household items to The Salvation Army Winnipeg Centre of Hope
As an organization that has people at the core of its mission, The Salvation Army has taken unprecedented measures during COVID-19 to ensure that those who rely on them for help, stay healthy and safe. Abiding by social distancing guidelines, our shelter spaces at The Salvation Army Winnipeg Centre of Hope had to be expanded. We needed to open a secondary temporary shelter location, 72 Martha Street, to continue to offer those needs to the public.
Due to a pre-existing partnership with IKEA Winnipeg, they contacted us to see if how they could help. After discussing the needs of The Salvation Army Center of Hope, IKEA Winnipeg agreed to donate two couches, one coffee table, two end tables, one fridge, 28 dining chairs, one four-seat table, 14 twin beds including slates, 14 dressers, 14 hanging storage racks, 14 nightstands, and 14 narrow tables.

These items were all donated IN ADDITION to a large number of blankets and pillows from IKEA in March. To date, IKEA Winnipeg has donated over $10,000 worth of product to The Salvation Army.

During the week of April 6th, IKEA Winnipeg staff worked hard to complete all the furniture assembly at their store. On April 9th, The Salvation Army trucks arrived at IKEA to pick up these much-needed items.
“We are extremely grateful for this donation of furniture from IKEA. It is the ideal type of furniture we need and comes at exactly the right time,” Major Gordon Taylor, Executive Director, The Salvation Army Winnipeg Centre of Hope.
