As 2017 approaches, you can make an end-of-year donation by December 31 that will lessen your tax burden and help The Salvation Army improve the lives of Canadians affected by poverty.

“Charitable contributions provide a tax credit on tax returns (15% on the first $200 and 29% after $200) and reduces the amount of income tax paid by donors,” says David Dunstan, Assistant Financial Secretary for The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda. “Your online gift will not only help those in need but also help you reduce your annual tax expenses―a definite win-win combination."

Over the past year, Salvation Army centres across the country have witnessed increased demand for their services.

“More people appear to be struggling to make ends meet between pay cheques and require our support,” says Major John Goulding of The Salvation Army in Newfoundland.

Many people coming to The Salvation Army for help are employed but their income isn’t sufficient enough to meet all of their expenses. This leaves them making difficult choices, such as paying the rent or eating enough food.

Thanks to the support of our generous donors, last year The Salvation Army provided assistance such as food, clothing and shelter to over 1.9 million people. When you give to The Salvation Army, you are helping marginalized and vulnerable people in your community. To make an end-of-year donation, click here
