It’s the end of the penny. Some say they’re not worth anything. We beg to differ! They may not have much purchasing power, but donate them to The Salvation Army and we can put them to good use.

We have heard there are approximately 35 billion pennies in circulation. That’s enough money to feed every single homeless person in Canada for an entire year.

People are not in the margins by coincidence or without reason. Take Bev for example. Mental health issues made it difficult for her to work. Her family abandoned her, and before long she was homeless—living in her car. Struggling to survive, she sought help at a Salvation Army shelter.

Situations don’t change quickly, but given the opportunity they can.

Yes, pennies matter and every penny donated will make a difference.

Starting on February 25th, participating Salvation Army Thrift Stores from coast to coast will accept your penny donations. “They don’t even need to be rolled,” says John Kershaw, Managing Director for The Salvation Army’s National Recycling Operations. “You can bring them in bulk and we will take care of the rest.”

The Salvation Army is determined to provide hope where there is no hope. With very little cost to you, penny donations will positively impact communities and help people get their lives on track.
