Agencies Prepare for Spring Thaw

Regina — With the floods of 2011 a not-too-distant memory, charitable organizations are kicking preparedness plans into high gear ahead of the upcoming spring thaw.
In the event of flooding, agencies like the Canadian Red Cross and The Salvation Army will respond to municipalities’ calls for help.
“The time to prepare, of course, is in advance,” said Mike Hoeft, an emergency and disaster services co-ordinator with The Salvation Army.
“Our role is just to be ready to respond if the need arises, and our primary responsibility … is feeding and clothing, and also emotional and spiritual care.”
