Halifax, NS December 7, 2020 \u2013 Today, NSP Maritime Link Inc. (NSP Maritime Link) announced a donation of $1.5M to the Home Energy Assistance Top-up Fund (HEAT Fund), which will immediately benefit electricity customers in Nova Scotia who have been hardest hit by the financial challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis donation comes at a critical time for Nova Scotians as we head into the coldest winter months,\u201d says Major Wade Budgell, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army. \u201cWe are grateful for this generous support that will dramatically increase our ability to help vulnerable Nova Scotians.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

NSP Maritime Link<\/a> is making this donation to assist customers in light of delays in receiving the planned clean energy from the Maritime Link, including COVID-19 related delays affecting Nalcor\u2019s Muskrat Falls\u2019 facility.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand the pressure that this pandemic is putting on Nova Scotians and we are making this donation to help those in greatest need at this time,\u201d says Rick Janega, CEO of NSP Maritime Link. \u201cThe HEAT Fund is a strong partnership that provides electricity customers with support and we are hopeful that these additional funds will help ease the burden for so many at this challenging time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The HEAT Fund<\/a>, which is administered by The Salvation Army, helps thousands of individuals and families in Nova Scotia keep their homes warm during the winter months. In 2020, more than 3,500 households received support from this life-changing program through funds provided by the founding partners, Nova Scotia Power<\/a> and the Nova Scotia Government<\/a> through <\/span>Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services.<\/span><\/p>\n
