HALIFAX, NS June 15, 2020 \u2013 This July, The Salvation Army is introducing a new event, Hope in the City Run \u2013 a virtual run to support the life-changing programs that The Salvation Army provides across the Maritimes.<\/p>\n

Virtual runs have become a popular method for non-profit organizations to raise vital funds after COVID-19 forced many key fundraising events to be cancelled or rescheduled.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo many events raise essential funds for our programs simply won\u2019t be able to take place this year,\u201d says Major Jamie Locke, divisional secretary for public relations and development. \u201cThat\u2019s why we are thrilled to announce this virtual solution.\u201d<\/p>\n

Participants register online, and then complete the run in their community on July 25-26, 2020. Competitive runners can even record their time through the host platform, Race Roster.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t have to be a runner to participate. Whether you run, walk or stroll your registration will help us fund everything from food banks to shelters,\u201d says Major Locke.<\/p>\n

Registration fees also include a T-shirt available via contactless pick-up, a printable bib and a digital medal. Participants are encouraged to take part with those in their family bubble or socially distant in groups of 10 or less, based on government restrictions.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal was to create an event that raises funds but also keeps the community connected,\u201d says Major Locke. \u201cWith the current easement of government restrictions, this is something families can do together.\u201d<\/p>\n
