Cold Night of the Year (CNOY) is an annual fundraising walk held in cities and towns across Canada. Its goal is to raise money for those experiencing hurt, hunger and homelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As one of the most prominent organizations assisting vulnerable people, The Salvation Army in Saint John, N.B., gathered volunteers and staff to encourage those involved in the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n“It’s a nice partnership in the sense that the fundraiser helps vulnerable people in the community.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe supported people taking part in the walk by parking our emergency disaster services truck at the rest location. We offered some snacks and hot chocolate. We provided those sorts of comforts along the route of the fundraising walk,\u201d explains Lieutenant Jason Brinson, leader at The Salvation Army in Saint John.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has become an annual tradition for the local Salvation Army to support the CNOY event, which is run by the organization \u201cOutflow\u201d in Saint John.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt’s a nice partnership in the sense that the fundraiser helps vulnerable people in the community, and we’re part of the team locally that supports them,\u201d Lt. Brinson adds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The team of staff and volunteers from The Salvation Army was present throughout walk. Volunteers had the opportunity to serve the community and participants were grateful for the support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPeople recognized us, The Salvation Army. Some thanked us for being there and we heard positive comments about the hot chocolate. It was a good experience and a good night,\u201d Lt. Brinson says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is just one example of how The Salvation Army in Saint John gets involved in the community to help individuals and families facing food or housing insecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To continue funding its programs and services and local causes such as CNOY, The Salvation Army relies on the community\u2019s generosity. This can be through donations or volunteering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFinancial support is always very helpful, because we can allocate the funds to where they’re needed most. Also, practical support, aby volunteering for a few hours. Even donating to our thrift store helps,\u201d Lt. Brinson concludes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
