People across the Maritimes answered the call of The Salvation Army bells by contributing over $1.9 million to the annual Christmas Kettle Campaign, exceeding last years’ donations by $3,800.

The funds were collected at approximately 200 kettle sites throughout the Maritimes from mid-November through Christmas Eve. Donations were also received through The Salvation Army online kettle campaign at fillthekettle.ca.

“We are happy to report another successful year for the kettle campaign,” says Rhonda Harrington, Divisional Secretary of Public Relations and Development. “Thanks to the generosity of Maritimers, these funds will continue to provide services and programs to vulnerable people in our community and give hope to those who need it most.”

Nationally, The Salvation Army collected $23.5 million, surpassing the $21 million goal.

The Salvation Army provides direct, compassionate, hands-on service to those in need across the country and around the world. Last year in Canada, The Salvation Army provided help to over 1.9 million people. Here in the Maritimes, The Salvation Army operates 32 units in 24 communities throughout the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
