It’s hard to believe two decades have gone by since the start of this tournament! It was very exciting to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Supreme Group Salvation Army Golf Classic with all of you. On June 7, over 140 golfers and 25 sponsors joined us on the green at the Highlands Golf Club to celebrate and mark this milestone.

The weather was temperate after an early morning rain, which made the grass greener. Players enjoyed their morning tee-off and were delighted with all the “energy boosts” available on various holes: smokies supplied by Grimm’s Fine Foods, mini donuts from Service Master, butter chicken samosas from Guru Fine Indian Cuisine, cupcakes, and many choices of beverages. We were just thrilled to see all these smiling faces back on the green with us.

The slideshow in the clubhouse brought back so many great memories from the past 20 years, we couldn’t help but feel proud of all we’ve achieved together. Almost $4 million dollars has been raised in total over that time, with a huge impact on all The Salvation Army programs and services in Edmonton, allowing for new projects, facilities, camp improvements, new programs, and expanded services.  We are also so grateful for all the support we have received and all the friends we have made along the way, especially the team from the Edmonton Elks of alumni, cheer team members, and staff! Thanks for your dedication, and all that you do.

This year, this tournament raised an amazing $300,000 dollars, of which almost $10,000 dollars came from the online silent auction alone. All proceeds will be going to our camp at Pine Lake – an ultimate camping adventure located southeast of Red Deer for kids and youth, which will be building new accommodations and offering our staff the opportunity to deliver the best programs possible to our campers.

“The Salvation Army has been helping kids who can’t afford a week-long summer camp to ensure that every child has the chance to experience one and all that it has to offer,” added Captain Curtis Metcalf, Divisional Youth Secretary. “Thanks to your support, Pine Lake Camp will be full of shouts of laughter and smiling faces.”

“Twenty years and over $4 million dollars raised is certainly reason to celebrate the Supreme Group Salvation Army Golf Classic here in Edmonton,” says Major Jamie Locke, Divisional Secretary for Public Relations. “Our sincere appreciation is extended to John and Sally Leder from Supreme Group for their leadership, and all our supporters and sponsors of the event. Thank you for partnering with The Salvation Army and for making a positive impact on the communities we serve.”

Truly, we are all so thankful to everyone who helps make this Golf Classic live up to its name. We are blessed with dedicated sponsors, donors, golfers, and volunteers who share the same mission of Giving Hope Today with us year after year. We will stay devoted to help more people in need and make our city a better place, and you are sincerely invited to continue this journey with John & Sally and us. See you next year!
