The Salvation Army in Edmonton held a free Christmas at the Castledowns Community Church serving up a festive meal to about 200 people from the community. The popular annual event has guests treated to a fantastic meal, Christmas cheer and fellowship.

“We’re so very grateful to Chef James, at the Edmonton Inn for preparing the dinner,” Said Major Al Hoeft, Divisional Secretary for Public Relations. “Without him and his team, the meal wouldn’t have happened.”

The Salvation Army is also very grateful to the generosity of Muth Electrical Management Inc., Rosedale Trucking, and Carlisle Community League, local businesses that sponsored the event. The Little Potato Company generously donated all the potatoes for the meal.

“This dinner came together because it is a community that cares,” said Maj. Hoeft, “Many of those who attended the dinner, are recipients of the Food Bank services provided at Castledowns and maybe wouldn’t have the opportunity to have a Christmas dinner on their own.”

The Salvation Army in Edmonton has been offering a traditional Christmas dinner for over 25 years and this is the second time it was held at Castledowns Community Church. However, there will be another Christmas dinner held at the Addictions and Resource Centre in downtown Edmonton on Christmas day and of course, all will be welcome.
