Calgary Centre of Hope hosts first Coldest Night of Year fundraiser

It was a cold night in Calgary on February 23rd, with temperatures dropping to -23 with windchill, but 91 undeterred walkers, 18 teams, and 30 volunteers took part in this year’s Coldest Night of the Year walk-a-thon, raising a total of $18,869 in support of The Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope.

The money raised by this event has been earmarked for some much-needed improvements to the community laundromat at the Centre in downtown Calgary. The machines are regularly used by those living on the streets, in our shelter, and in our community, and are just one of the services offered there that helps bring dignity and hope to those affected by homelessness.

Coldest Night of the Year is part of a nationwide campaign that raises awareness and funds for charities serving people that are hungry, homeless, and hurting people in our community.
