On Monday, June 9, 2014 crowds gathered by The Salvation Army Community Response Unit (CRU), in downtown Calgary to enjoy free soup and to learn about the many programs and services offered in Calgary.

“I saw The Salvation Army truck and had to come over,” says Rob, a construction worker taking his lunch break on Stephen Avenue. “I love this organization. I stayed at the Centre of Hope a while back. And now on a chilly day, I’m greeted with a hot bowl of soup; I can’t say enough about how much The Salvation Army has been there for me. ”

The Salvation Army Soup for the Soul event aims to educate people on the pressing issues regarding hunger and the Canadian poor. Every day thousands of people don’t know where their next meal will come from, in fact, one in seven Canadian children go to school hungry! The Salvation Army and their many supporters are working diligently towards eliminating hunger and poverty so that no one will have to go hungry, struggle to find a job or be forced to sleep on the street.
