Calgary’s Less Fortunate Share Family Day Together

COH - Family Day at the Centre of Hope in Calgary
by Alberta

As families all across Alberta celebrated Family Day on Monday, February 18, over 500 hundred of Calgary’s homeless and less fortunate came together as a family and enjoyed a delicious turkey dinner at The Salvation Army’s Centre of Hope.

It was the hard work and countless volunteer hours that made the eighth annual Family Day Dinner a success. “Every year we depend on over 40 wonderful volunteers to help us set up, serve food and clean up after dinner!” says Margaret Blackburn, Community Engagement Coordinator.

On behalf of Community Services Calgary, we would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all of the volunteers who assisted with the dinner. It is the kindness and compassion of the volunteers and dedicated staff that helps strengthen the community and give hope to those struggling to survive.

Community Services Calgary is the umbrella under which the social programs fall. The Salvation Army is committed to combatting homelessness and its effects through transformational services.
